Tian Tan Buddha

Overview

The Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, is a monumental bronze statue located on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, symbolizing peace and harmony. The Tian Tan Buddha is one of the most iconic landmarks in Hong Kong, completed in 1993. It stands at 34 meters (112 feet) tall, including its base, and weighs over 250 metric tons. The statue is constructed from 202 bronze pieces and is seated on a lotus throne, representing purity and spiritual awakening. The statue's right hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra, symbolizing fearlessness, while the left hand rests on its lap, representing generosity and compassion.
